Kahsmiri people have a lot of queries in their mind whether train services would be possible in valley? If yes, which routes would be covered? Will it run in all weather conditions? More than a 10 decade dream to have a rail network connection with India will come true by 2017. Recently, a successful trail has been conducted between Banihal to Qazigund took only 20 minutes to cross the one of the major hurdle of pass. This the second largest tunnel of 11 km which generated a new hope among the local population and might be thrown open in March this year.

Pertinently, Qazigund and its surrounding areas produce apples, walnuts, strawberries and rice and once the rail connects with Jammu & Srinagar, it will be easy to transport goods at a reasonable price. Transportation charges and problems would be automatically come down considerably. Options will be open for the vendor to unload its product at any location for good sale and handsome earning. Ambitions and one of the oldest 345 km long project from Jammu to Baramulla provides a cutting edge over neighboring countries. Immediate relief could be provided within hours in case of any natural calamities including war to the people of Kashmir.

The ambitious project had started n 2002 when former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee dedicated this project particularly for Kashmiri people and declared it as a national project. Medieval History of Kashmir reveals that earlier Maharaja Pratap Singh first explored the possibility of railway project between Jammu and Kashmir. He approved a rail line between Jammu and Kashmir via Reasi through Mughal Road. But it was miserably failed due to partition and later n, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi kicked off the line between Jammu to Udhampur.

Regular train service would be expected to complete in 2017 and usher a new era of development, cultural heritage and business amongst the public of J&K State and rest of the country.
